ReplyDelete1) Irving's parents expected him to not only gain as much schooling as possible at the time but to also join the family business when that was done or become a highly respectable and regarded lawyer.

ReplyDelete1. Irvins family hoped that with the education he had gained he would take over the family business and be able to successfully run it when the time came.
ReplyDelete2. He took the responsibility without complain but he knew that it wasn't his calling, this wan't what truly inspired him to get up every day in the morning.
3. The fame that his writing won him made him ponder if writing was his true call, but this thought was shortly lived since his writing like many others eventually lost its fame and glamour.
4. European culture was quite different from any other, it was frequently changing so it gave him an opportunity to get involved with the world around him on a higher level with his writing.
